The Development Concept

If we are to deal with major issues like global warming and sustainable development everybody now knows we need to make careful use of the earth’s resources and do something about the increasing amount of waste that our society produces.

We must make more efficient use of energy and look for renewable sources of energy, we must conserve vital mineral resources and we must produce less waste.

The type of businesses that we expect to locate within the development are those that utilise previously used materials as the core resource in their business or businesses that have a direct relationship with, or serve such businesses, for example academic or research and development facilities.

We envisage that these businesses will belong to the Environmental Technologies Sector, with the growth in this new sector being driven by recent government legislation, which creates greater demands for resource efficiency and recovery.

‘’As for the business opportunities [in the waste industry] there is great potential for companies offering solutions on how to divert waste from landfill – such as composting, energy from waste, recycling and re-use’’ from a speech given by Elliot Morley MP, Minister of State (Climate Change and Environment).

Based on market drivers, anticipated demand and overall need, it is anticipated that a range of reprocessors and material flows have the potential to be comprised within the RRP.  Examples are:
