Two separate applications have been submitted. A planning application for the Resource Recovery Park, which includes the Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF) and the Environmental Technologies Complex (ETC), has been submitted to Cheshire County Council. An application for the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Power Plant has been submitted to Department of Trade and Industry (Dti).
The reason for submitting this application to the Dti directly is that the RDF Power Plant will produce over 50 Mega Watts (MW) of electricity. The Secretary of State will following consultation with the Local Authorities and local communities decide on whether or not to grant permission for the RDF Power Plant.
Both applications were submitted alongside an Environmental Statement (ES), the purpose of which is to report on the findings and conclusions of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). This EIA includes a range of studies that demonstrate the likely environmental impacts of the proposed development, and the proposals we have made to mitigate against these impacts.
The ES addresses the issues associated with the RDF Power Plant and Environmental Technologies separately and also addresses the cumulative impact of both proposals together.
A Non-Technical Summary (NTS) of the Environmental Statement has been provided to give a brief description of the proposed development, and identifies and describes its potential significant environmental impacts.
